It is almost over as I type, looks like Obama will win. I am glad, we can finally remove the "never had a black president" nonsense and get to whom is most qualified. Well, we will still have to vote on a female president as well. Although Hillary would have been a good candidate because she is qualified AND female. I wonder if it pisses the woman population off to know that we got a lesser qualified candidate from the Democrat side simply because he was male and black. It humors me to see that as far as we have come we are still more willing to induce a black unqualified male rather than a better choice in a woman.

Speaking as an "issues" guy, and a progressionist, I'm kinda bored with all this talk of the race and gender of the candidates. I wouldn't care if the president is a purple transvestite born in Switzerland. What MATTERS is where the country will be lead, will the huge problems be addressed and how and when, and so on...
But, I'm DEFINITELY in the minority on this, no doubt. To many people, this was a big symbolic deal. (Never mind that Barack Obama is half white!...)
Well, that's fine, I guess. If this symbolic race stuff hoopla can be translated into actual leverage to get REAL things done, then by all means, USE IT!
You have to admit that it was, to use a word thrown around a lot in this week, "historical". As a watcher of American history, this election had a vibe much like when Kennedy breathed some fresh air into 8 straight years of Eisenhour in 1960. Now, witnessing the reaction of the Obama win, I'd have to say that this is even BIGGER than that.
It also had a feel of coming out of political "dark ages" in America, it seemed. George W, our worst 2-term president in American history, I have no doubt, really made things such that the American people were one thing, and its government a completely different thing that's driven by other identities and values completely. People talked in terms of "THIS country" and "THOSE people in Washington", not "MY coutry" and "MY representatives in Washington", for instance. Just a big disconnect going on; No ownership or alliance at all.
The fearful, paranoid, post-911 era of darkness is over. The light of hope was LONG coming. I welcome it; It feels good!...
