I thought I already posted this, but I couldn't see it anywhere so maybe I didn't.
The forum was recently upgraded to proboards v 4.5 and with the upgrade I have elected to structure the boards differently.
Now threads appear inside categories in order of numbers of posts. The thread with the most number of posts appears at the top of the category, and the thread with the least number of posts appears at the bottom. When more threads are in a category than can fit on one page, I move the thread that has been stale for the longest time into the archive.
I used to belong to a forum that had a system similar to this and I found that it caused people to try to start more interesting threads. People treated it like a game to try to get their thread to the top of the board as having the most replies.
Just making sure people notice that when they start a new thread now, it will appear at the bottom of the board instead of the top. For a thread to make it to the top, it has to get lots of replies.

I'll have to see it more in action to judge but I guess it sounds like a good idea on the surface. It did confuse me for a minute when I was browsing the forum the other day.
