If you're already familiar with my work in my other forum, Troll Click Republic, you can ignore this thread. If you are new to my administrative style, please read this.
I believe in free discussion, I mean, I really believe in it. I believe a person should be allowed to say whatever they want to say in a forum as long as they don't...
1) spam for profit. (non-profit spam is fine)
2) physically threaten anyone.(as long as the other person takes it seriously)
Those are the only two rules I will delete posts or ban people for violating. Please don't come to me and say "so and so is saying 'fuck' in his posts, "trolling" or using an 'offensive avatar.'" I don't care. If you don't like what someone is posting, ignore him/her. No one is forcing you to read anything you don't want to read. The "swear word" taboo is one of the stupidest things our culture has ever produced and it would be beneath my intelligence to enforce it. Sexuality is just as much a part of life as rainbows and dimples on babies and I will not participate in eliminating messages or pictures that contain indication that we are sexual creatures.
The "troll" label is way overused in internet forums in my opinion. If a person is posting responses to what you are saying and challenging positions that person is not a troll. If you make a declarative statement expect it to be challenged by someone. A person is only a "troll" if that person makes crazy statements and is unwilling to back it up or respond to counter-positions. And even if someone is a "troll" the easiest solution is to just ignore that person. This forum is not an agenda based forum, and I will not enforce a particular philosophy onto my users. All opinions are appreciated.
I have only two exceptions. Violating these rules will not get you banned but may get your post deleted but may get your thread moved.
1)The "personal boards" are for light discussion, not debate. Some people who come to the forum just want to talk about their life or may need advice for a problem they're having and ridicule does not help. If you have a problem with something someone says in one of the personal boards, start a thread about it in one of the debate boards. Then if that person wants to mix it up with you, that person can click your thread and debate the matter there.
2) "Personal attacks" should be kept in the "fight club" board. "Benji is an idiot" is a perfectly fine thread title, but most people are just not going to care and don't want to read such a thing. If you want to start such a thread, start it in the "fight club." And yes, you can attack me all you want. I pride myself on being an administrator that allows his users to challenge me on what I do or the sort of person I am.
I believe in debate. A free discussion of issues is the primary way our society evolves. Debate is not "bickering." When we put our positions out for others to challenge it forces us to rearrange the files in our minds so they can be literated better and that helps us think more clearly. Like playing chess, debate aids the brain. If you say anything in the debate boards, expect it to be challenged fiercely. If you can't hack it in a free exchange of ideas, keep your mouth shut. If you are familiar with me in forums, I debate issues very fiercely but I also keep a good report with people when a debate is over. Debate is not personal, even when it gets personal.
That is all. I love forums and that's why I created this one. I am more than welcome to any suggestions anyone has to make this forum the best place for people from Northern MIchigan to come and hang. Enjoy!
