Which other culture would you choose to be born into?

I think that question is difficult to answer, because "culture" is part of us and who we are as indiduals. It's almost like asking "who would you rather be?" If you were born into a different culture you would likely be a different person and would prefer that culture and it's values over all others, no matter what culture it was.
But if I had a choice to live anywhere in the world (considering that I am a parent) it would probably be france. France would give my son the best opportunity to live in a secure environment where he and his family are taken care of, where people respect one another and most of the people are sane.
For me personally- If I weren't a parent- I would prefer to live in any culture where they still arrange marriages. Your family sets you up with a wife at seventeen, and that's it. No more worrying about it. Even if you're unhappy with the woman you married, it doesn't matter because the culture makes divorce too difficult, so you just have to deal with it. Don't like your wife? Oh well, I guess you don't like your wife then. I think I would prefer that to the constant thoughts about "what could be?" and "what is my partner up to?" and "Is she still going to be with me next year?" and "if not, what am I going to do then?" that we go through in our free to date culture.

Actually yes. The way a culture entertains itself says quite a bit about it.

Oh my, what does that say about our entertainment? I feel deeply ashamed of all of us right now.

On the whole, we do not find a human being harming another human being entertaining.

Boxing? Wrestling? Wrestling especially is quite popular, thats all about hurting someone else.

But in wrestling they aren't hurting someone else, they're hurting themselves.
Boxing is a sport where both participants willingly get involved and can defend themselves. That's not the same thing as a boxer tied to a chair defenseless and another boxer hitting him.

Is that not the same as Japanese gameshows? they don't drag people off the street, the contestents go on knowing that they will be covered in bees or set on fire. Same thing in my eyes.
